WarCraft 3: Reforged is a mobile game, future uncertain
The best RTS on mobile might never see the light of day after an extraordinary theft.
WarCraft 3: Reforged was supposed to make history: the first phone game to be sold at $40, and the biggest RTS on iOS and Android, with a new innovative control scheme. We might never get to play this gem after Diablo: Immortal‘s reception from players. Indeed, following the announcement of Diablo: Immortal, an angry vocal minority of PC players raided Activision Blizzard‘s offices and stole Blizzard employees’ mobile phones, making them unable to keep developing any new product (modern games are not developed on PC anymore, phones handle basically the same for programming). A massive surprise awaited the looters: right before the phones had their content remotely deleted, the fans managed to play an early version of the RTS game. As it turns out, Activision Blizzard had not announced yet that their new title would also be released on mobile, but it was their intention to unveil this massive announcement during Blizzcon 2019.
To Activision Blizzard executive Brallen Brotick, it made complete sense to release WarCraft 3: Reforged on the most widespread platform that did not exist back when WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos was created in 2002. According to insider reports, the gaming community is now bigger on mobile than on PC, and every PC player has a phone while not every person with a phone has a desktop computer capable of running a modern 3D engine. Which also explains why the game was shown with poor quality graphics, as it was a necessary downgrade to run on all types of phones.
We tried to reach Activision Blizzard for comment, but since their phones were taken, we did not manage to contact anyone working on the game. Our suspicion is that WarCraft 3: Reforged will be canceled and preorders will be reimbursed within the next months.
